Biography – Early Life & Career
Shanmukh was born on 16 September 1994 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Since childhood, Shanmukh was fond of performing arts and took part in various extra-curricular activities at his school.
He studied at the Amrita School of Engineering in Bangalore (2012-2013) and received a Bachelor of Business Management degree from Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM).
On 2 July 2012, he created his YouTube channel “Shanmukh Jaswanth” (his channel name), on the same day he uploaded his first video title ‘Cadbury Laddu Ad By Shanmukh‘.
In 2013, he got recognition on YouTube, after starring in the hit YouTube video “The Viva by Sabarish Kandregula“, The video created a buzz on the internet. The comic and illogical definition of optical fiber “optical fiber uses communication and communication uses optical fiber” by Shanmukh went viral on the internet.
Surprisingly, Shanmukh never has been a part of any professional course in dance & acting, actually, he learned to dance by watching various YouTube videos.
In 2015, during his graduation at GITAM, he gave a crowd-pulling performance in flash mobs to promote Gem Fest, a cultural festival organized by GITAM’s management students.
Subsequently, he uploaded dance covers of various songs like Hosanna, Kala Chashma, Bezubaan and You and Me (Khaidi No 150) on his YouTube channel. With the You and Me dance cover, he gained recognition as a dancer.
Meanwhile, he collaborated with VIVA, a YouTube channel that produces entertainment-centric content. Shanmukh has starred in various videos produced by VIVA, such as The Interview by Sabarish Kandregula (2013), The Big Fat Proposal (2016) and a series of ‘Viva News‘.

❗ Controversies
1) In March 2017, an anonymous lawyer filed a petition against Shanmukh Jaswanth and his girlfriend, Deepti Sunaina’s short film ‘Sita: I’m Not a Virgin (2017)‘. Apparently, the film’s director Kaushik Babu was accused of hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community, stating that the phrase ‘I am not virgin’ used in the title of the film was inappropriate.
According to Hindu mythology, ‘Sita’ was one of the central figures in the Hindu epic Ramayana, which is also promoted as a goddess. Therefore, the title of the film provoked the anger of the Hindus. In an interview, talking about the allegations, Shanmukh said,
“Whatever is happening is ridiculous. Our aim was to send out a message. It is a bold subject, but there’s nothing controversial like people are making it out to be. Sita is just the name of a character, and the film has nothing to do with the Ramayana. Without watching the film, assumptions are being made based on the title.”
Thereafter, the title was changed to ‘Seetha I’m Not A Virgin (2017)‘ to dismiss the charges.
2) Shanmukh Jaswanth was arrested by the police when he hit three parked cars and two bikes. The incident took place at Road No.10, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, Telangana.
Police say that he was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and lost control of his car. After, Shanmukh hitting the vehicles, the owners of the cars picked up an argument with him. Police who received the information from the locals reached the spot and took Shanmukh into custody.
Police when tested, the reading on the breath analyser was 170mg/100 ml. The Traffic Police immediately seized the car of Shanmukh and a few cases have been registered. Cases under 337, 279, 185 sections under the motor vehicle act have been filed against Shanmukh. He may get a special bail in a drunken drive case.
